Microbial Community Organization and Structure

Sequencing data has revealed a wealth of information about how microbes interact with each other. But this abundance of data often lacks spatial context. I'm interested in the spatial forms and structures of microbial communities, working to understand the forces that shape microbial consortia and the biological implications of their organizations.

Host-Microbe Interactions

How do big guys communicate with lil guys? Multicellular organisms evolved in a microbe-dominated world. I'm interested in how multicellular hosts employ, interact with, or defend against these diverse microbes.

Imaging Methods Development

"Seeing is believing, as long as you have the proper controls." I love using visualization tools in research; they meld with other knowledge sources to offer immediate and tangible ways to grasp biological systems. As I move forward in my career, I want to continue using and developing techniques that yield tractable insights into the biology of microbial systems.
